The Christian life is like a housewife’s endless cycle of washing, worn and dirtied again almost as soon as it is clean, a picture for the ongoing work of fighting sin in Romans 8:12-13. Christians are no longer debtors to the flesh, and by the Spirit they are to be putting to death the deeds of the body.
