Philippians 2:19-30: The one who holds the rope, and the one who goes down in the pit

In the late 1700s, as the British empire pushed further into new territory, one image became a picture of Christian ministry: some are called to go down into the pit, into danger and sacrifice, while others hold the rope through prayer and support. Consider Philippians 2 and Paul’s own partnership with Timothy and Epaphroditus as a model of both callings.
