Chap. 4 Para 1 The Creation of All Things
We come now to the exciting section of the 1689 that deals with the external works of God.
We have been studying theology proper as we have looked at the attributes of God, as well
as the Trinity. We have looked back into eternity past as it were into the mind of God as He
made His plan for all things the centerpiece of which is saving a people for Himself in Christ.
Forgive the language but we step outside of God and into time to witness what the Bible
says about the creation of all things. The teaching of the confession follows a literal reading
of Genesis 1 and 2. As with the doctrine of God’s Decree the focal point of the doctrine of
Creation is the creation of mankind and their place in God’s world. ‘In the beginning it
pleased God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for the manifestation of the glory of his eternal
power, wisdom, and goodness, to create or make the world, and all things therein, whether
visible or invisible, in the space of six days, and all very good.
